Richard Stiles is emeritus Professor of Landscape Architecture at Vienna University of Technology. After studying Natural Sciences (Botany) and Landscape Design at Oxford and Newcastle Universities in the UK he worked as a landscape architect in both private and public offices in England and Germany, before joining Manchester University as a Lecturer in Landscape Design. From there he was appointed to the Chair of Landscape Architecture in Vienna. He is a past president of the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools and was instrumental in running the LE:NOTRE Thematic Network in Landscape Architecture for 11 years, from which the LE:NOTRE Institute was established. He has been involved in several ECLAS sponsored publications, including The Routledge Handbook of Landscape Architecture Education, The Routledge Handbook of Teaching Landscape, Teaching Landscape: The Studio Experience, Exploring the Boundaries of Landscape Architecture and Mainstreaming Landscape. He continues to think and write about landscape architecture.
