In crowded urban areas pocket parks or squares are a way to improve urban public space. Recently several initiatives are due in Bucharest in order to improve their quality.

redesigned square in Bucharest
The Centre for Architectural and Urban Studies of the "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urban Planning has a year long programme dealing with urban public space. Several publications emerged, and one of the last is based on a cooperation between this university and the National University of Arts. Each an artist and an architect worked out a design for selected squares to improve their quality by placing an art object in a designed place. A publication emerged (see literature).
Initiatives are however longer. In the image you see a square redesigned by Nicolas Triboi in the centre of Bucharest.
The original LE:NOTRE Projects were co-funded by the European Union's Socrates and Lifelong Learning Programmes.
The LE:NOTRE Institute has been established by ECLAS as foundation under Netherlands Law.
