Peles castle in Sinaia
Sinaia is a mountain resort of national importance in Romania. It is the place where the Royal castles Peleș and Pelișorare located. The landscape around the castles, with the small river which inspired their name, also inspired fairy tales of the first Queen of Romania, writer under the pseudonym Carmen Sylva. Research on the landscape of Sinaia was published in the journal Arhitectura. Currently the main boulevard is being restored with European funds. At one end of the boulevard is situated a hotel complex, including Păltiniș hotel, a former bath curation hotel, and at the other end the central park. This park is location of summer events, such as a trade fair of traditional products, a music festival including “Jazz in the park”, a film festival, but also the accordance of the trophy of the Sinaia rally in the neighbouring casino, taking place on the wending streets around the castles and the monastery of Sinaia. The importance of parks in resorts is not to be neglected, apart of the natural landscape. The promenade is part of resort architecture. The music festival also extended to the castle terrace. Archive research in the National Archives of Romania revealed that the castle was foreseen with winter gardens. Also the partial Art Nouveau interior decoration shows a connection to the vegetal world stylised in Art Nouveau.
