Speaker information
Bernd Plling is a scientific assistant on urban agriculture at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in Germany and at the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture. He worked at the Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research in Mncheberg (2009-2011). His teaching and research interests lie primarily in the fields of spatial development and rural area. Within his studies, he focused on geography, physical geography, landscape ecology, landscape planning and meteorology. He conducted a short term scientific mission at the University of Perugia on business models of urban agriculture in 2015 and has been involved in several EU projects (cf.;

Jan-Willem van der Schans is an elected member of the Steering Committee at the EU Rural Networks' Assembly in Brussels, Belgium. He works on the EU Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (EIP), within which he focuses on short and innovative food supply chains. He coordinates applied research on food at the Amsterdam Metropolitan Solutions Institute and is senior researcher at the 'Landbouw Economisch Institut' in den Haag. He worked as senior researcher at the Wageningen University (2009-2014). He has elaborated on research issues such as business models for urban agriculture, spatial distribution of urban farming systems, sustainable food chains and networks, management of natural resources, corporate social responsibility and urban agriculture. He did his PhD in governance of marine resources and his master in business administration at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and studied organisation theory and international relations at The London School of Economics and Political Science (cf.;
