Title: Design Studios as a Teaching Method

--- Description ---
Jeroen de Vries presents the concept of the design studios in the landscape architecture programme of VHL University of Applied Sciences. Elements of the studios are inclusion of professional practice, integrating expertise of different disciplines, stakeholder involvement and peer-review by students. The lecture focus on learning goals, didactic steps, pedagogic methods and discussion of the main dilemma's we have for studio teaching.

Educated as a landscape architect at Wageningen University with a specialisation in landscape design and landscape ecology. He combines working as a professional practitioner with education.

His personal mission is to foster quality of outdoor space by consultancy, education and research especially by promoting sustainability and ecological quality.

Partner of the DG Groep in Boskoop, which is an office that advices on strategic and management plans for green areas, final designs, quality of open space and GIS applications for management of green areas.

At Van Hall Larenstein he carries out applied research. Subjects are enhancing biodiversity by design of metropolitan landscapes (Design for Biodiversity),a research project on sustainable, multi-layer and multifunctional projects (Het Nieuwe Maaiveld) and a research project on international competences for landscape development. Currently he is chair of the Examination Board of Landscape Architecture and co-ordinates international collaboration.
