The conference "Dangerous Landscapes" will examine emerging approaches to disaster risk reduction in low-income communities. It views landscape not only as a source of threat but also as a potential remedy. Sidestepping traditional measures that rely on costly hard infrastructures, more integrative and affordable forms of risk reduction will be addressed. The conference addresses a range of actors involved in disaster risk management: activists, urbanists, engineers and economists.
"Dangerous Landscapes" is part of the Herrenhausen Conference Christian Werthmann (Institute for Landscape Architecture) and consists of Ulrike Grote(Institute for Environmental Economics and World Trade) and Jrg Dietrich(Institute for Water Resources Management) as members of the TRUST Research Initiative (Transdisciplinary Rural Development Studies) at the Leibniz University of Hannover, and Miho Mazereeuw (Director of Urban Risk Lab at MIT) and Claudio Acioly (Head of Capacity Building at UN-Habitat) as international partners. The conference establishes a further link to a series of conferences initiated by the Informal Urbanism Hub as part of the UN-Habitat University Initiative (UNI).

In the framework of the conference the Medellin and Sao Paulo parts of the exibition „out there - Landscape Architecture on Global Terrain" will be opened in the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape, Leibniz Universitt Hannover, Herrenhuser Strae 8. Exibition Opening: 19.30 November 28, 2017
